Introduction

This workshop is titled Resolution of Conflict for Wellbeing as it focuses on both issues and activities around conflict and enhancing wellbeing at work. Conflict is a normal part of working in groups, communities and business teams. This workshop is unique in its combination of conflict and wellbeing and it introduces new ways of seeing conflict.  Importantly the workshop helps people to understand how we can change the way we think to catalyse different outcomes.  It is a fascinating subject and good to know we are never victims, we always have choices.  We have the tools to create positive, empowering and effective workplaces.

Issues of wellbeing are an important focus as lack of wellbeing affects performance, staff retention and workplace collaboration and harmony. The Australian Psychological Society 2012 research reported the following:

• In 2013, Australians reported significantly lower levels of wellbeing compared with findings in 2012 and 2011.
• Older Australians (66-75 years old) continued to report much higher levels of wellbeing compared with younger Australians (particularly the 18-25 year age group).
• Similar to previous years, there were no differences between males and females on levels of wellbeing.

The key question is how we deal with conflict to ensure that it doesn’t escalate into workplace bullying and then transform it into wellbeing?

It is essential that management and employees learn basic skills in understanding the nature of conflict, conflict resolution, communication, truthfulness, balance, laughter, clowning as positive psychology and positively empower people to deal effectively with problems as they arise.  After all, we are all responsible for healthy and happy workplaces.

The workshop design is based on empowering: critical thinking, collaborative activities, mind mapping and approaches to solving problems and exploring proactive ways to resolve conflicts. The focus on wellbeing is essential as an individual’s sense of happiness and self-understanding has an impact on how they deal with conflict and indeed the promotion of wellbeing at work.

The workshop is available as a half day and full day workshop.  The half days is for a brush stroke over the range of aspects of conflict, conflict resolution, wellbeing and creating positive workplaces.  However, if you require more depth and experiential activities then a full day workshop is recommended.  For optimum results approximately 20-30 participants is recommended.
